Sing Lun Holdings President Lee Kian Hui has been elected the new Chairman of the Singapore Business Federation (SBF), succeeding Teo Siong Seng, who earlier announced he would step down and not seek re-election.

SBF held its 24th Annual General Meeting on Wednesday (June 24) and elected the 13th Council, which will serve a two-year term until 2028.

SBF said in a statement that the new Council comprises 24 members, including 12 elected councilors, 11 representatives from trade associations and chambers, and one co-opted councilor.

The new Council includes six new members: AmCham Singapore Chairman Adam Click, Restaurant Association of Singapore President Mo Sixiang, SGTech Chairman Li Deming, and Quantedge Capital CEO Suhaimi Zainul-Abidin.

During the AGM, SBF also held its fifth Future Ready Business dialogue, with Minister for Public Service and Defence Chan Chun Sing as guest of honour.

Themed "System-Wide Readiness: What Changes Must Government and Business Make?", the dialogue brought together business leaders and policymakers to discuss enhancing resilience, building future-ready capabilities, and addressing growing uncertainties.

Lee Kian Hui: Ensuring Businesses Remain Competitive, Resilient, and Future-Ready

New Chairman Lee Kian Hui, also a Nominated MP, said in the statement that geopolitical tensions, rapid AI advancements, and shifting trade patterns are reshaping the global economy, presenting both challenges and opportunities.

Lee said: "My top priority is to ensure businesses remain competitive, resilient, and future-ready. We will work closely with enterprises, government, and industry partners to develop practical solutions, foster a pro-business environment, and help businesses build capabilities for innovation, internationalization, and sustainable growth."

He also noted that Singapore will chair ASEAN next year, an opportunity to deepen regional economic integration and strengthen ASEAN as a key global growth engine. "SBF will collaborate with regional partners to turn these opportunities into tangible business outcomes and drive a more connected, innovative, and sustainable ASEAN."

Lee previously served as SBF Deputy Chairman and Treasurer. He also acted as Chairman during Teo Siong Seng's temporary leave of absence.

Teo Siong Seng, 71, issued a statement in May saying he would not seek re-election after his term ends on June 24. He had earlier stepped down from his roles as SBF Chairman, Pacific International Lines Executive Chairman and Director, among others, to deal with charges filed by the US Department of Justice. Previously, Lianhe Zaobao reported that the US accused him of involvement in manipulating dry bulk container prices.
